Rockin' Car Culture

When it comes to Rockabilly, the car culture is one of the biggest aspects. Many of the cars are 1970's and older but you will see a few newer cars at car shows and Rockabilly shows. People take pride in their vintage cars and take them to shows to show them off and potentially win awards. There are 2 main types of cars you will see and that is a hot rod and a rat rod.

A hot rod is a cleaner car, usually remodeled or restored to its original condition. Many of them are sparkly paint jobs and a clean interior but a newer motor under the hood. You can often see people in their hot rods cruising the streets in the summer time, enjoying a nice drive.

Rat rods are a little different. They tend to be the rustier, rougher version of hot rods. They also tend to have exposed motors and exaggerated parts that make it look really cool and tough.

One of the biggest contributors to the Rockabilly/hot rod car culture is Big Daddy Roth, owner of Rat Fink and founder of Kustom Kulture. He creates on of a kind hot rods and his green rat is know widely through out the car culture world.

You can also find many vintage car themed magazines such as Hot Rod, Rat Rod, Gnarly Magazine, and many more.
